The Neurology channel states that cod liver oil supplements (which contain Vitamins A and D) may help to improve Autistic patients in these following areas.

  • Eye Contact
  • Attention span
  • Behavior Learning

Pediatrician Mary N. Megson, M.D., F.A.A.P. has treated over 2,000 children for autism. She treats her patients with a normal daily dose of the RDA of Vitamin A in the form of cod liver oil. The majority of Dr. Megson's patients have been relieved of the autistic spectrum symptoms within six months and some within weeks. Dr. Megson's research studies indicate vitamin overdose is possible. To avoid this she highly recommends a patient being evaluated by their physician in regards to blood levels of vitamins A and D. This is to be done before starting any cod liver oil treatments.

Cod liver oil has been also recommended for a wide variety of ailments

Thanks to technology cod liver oil comes in different forms ranging from capsules and chewables to flavored oils.

Personal Testimony

This author recommends the RDA dosage for everyone's health. I take it twice a day in capsule form and my children take it twice a day in the flavored chewable form as preventive medicine. Please check the labels and buy from a reputable dealer. The cod liver oil should have a label that states that it contains no mercury or hard metals. If at all possible try to get the naturalization processed oil instead of the synthetic it provides many more benefits.
